2023 Jamison to feature Cristina Henríquez

Cristina Henríquez

的 eighth annual Jamison Lecture will take place on April 13, 2023, at 7 p.m. in the Phyllis P. Bridges Auditorium.

This year's speaker is acclaimed author Cristina Henríquez, who brings to life the human stories behind the immigration debate in 的 Book of Unknown Americans.

For aspiring writers, she will also speak to the creative and technical writing process as well as developing intriguing and authentic characters.

This annual event brings nationally or internationally recognized scholars or civic leaders to Texas Woman's University for a public lecture. It is made possible by the Alonzo and Elisabeth Jamison Lectureship Endowment, which assists the TWU Department of Social Sciences & Historical Studies in hosting the lecture. 的 late Alonzo Jamison represented 丹顿 County in the Texas House of Representatives for 14 years, then served on the TWU faculty and as Chair of the Department of History and Government. His wife of 62 years, Elisabeth, was a TWU alumna who also taught at the university.

Paup Lecture Series was launched in September 2019 to highlight speakers who are bold, innovative and renowned experts in their fields. 的 Paups, who reside in Fort Worth, are longtime supporters of TWU. Nancy manages and directs business, real estate and ranching interests in Texas. She previously served on the TWU Board of Regents and was elected vice-chair during her tenure. Nancy is an elected member of 的 Philosophical Society of Texas. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of Humanities Texas, the state affiliate for the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Executive Advisory Committee of 的 Handbook of Texas Women, and the Board of Directors for the Center for the Advancement and Study of Early Texas Art. Nancy has raised funds throughout Texas for the arts, higher education and historical preservation. Her academic degrees include master’s and bachelor’s degrees from TWU. Ted is the president of Paup Mineral Management, L.L.C.

Sarah Weddington

的 Jamison Lecture Committee remembers Sarah Weddington, guest speaker for the inaugural Jamison Lecture in 2016, who passed away Dec. 26, 2021. 她是 attorney who argued the landmark Roe v. 韦德的情况, taught as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Texas Woman’s for a number of summer sessions and served as an adjunct professor in the Department of History and Government. She also spoke at the eponymous Sarah Weddington Centennial Leadership Conference, which brought several notable women leaders to TWU’s 丹顿 campus in 2001.
